Derek Braid has been taking photographs since his school days, starting off in the darkroom, developing films and printing black and white photographs. This pastime developed into a hobby, and then became an obsession. Derek was a contributor of 35mm transparencies to a Photographic Library in Edinburgh until the digital revolution. Derek was an early adopter of digital technology and developed a photographic business, selling framed prints and cards, both through local galleries and direct to customers on-line. Derek is also a regular contributor of photographs to the local newspapers.
Derek lives in North Berwick, a seaside town east of Edinburgh on the Firth of Forth, and carries his camera everywhere he goes, walking many miles with his Cocker Spaniel 'Sparky', capturing his local area in different light and in different seasons.
